ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST

Environmental Specialist is responsible for onsite environmental technical tasks and will be expected to apply theory and principles of environmental engineering to modify, test and operate equipment and devices used in the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental problems, including waste treatment and site remediation. May assist in the development of environmental remediation devices.  Position will be under the direction of the project Environmental Manager. 

Tasks:

  • Will be expected to study and become familiar with the project environmental reports and specifications.
  • Must document performance and condition of erosion and sediment control best management practices and categorized solid waste disposal weights.
  • Will monitor containers, equipment and material deliveries for potentially harmful insects, spiders, animals, soil or vegetation/seeds that may be inside or outside of the deliveries.
  • Will be responsible for sending vehicles, trucks, trailers and containers to the onsite wash facility for cleaning as applicable.
  • Must be able to locate problems and follow procedures developed for the resolution of those issues.
  • Maintain project logbook records or computer program files.
  • Fill out environmental observation forms, file and maintain record keeping.
  • Must be able to write up and organize reports and summaries to reflect results.
  • Will be responsible for ensuring proper project planning, implementation, inspection, reporting, administration, and compliance with environmental regulations and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulation related to environmental permits, hazardous environments and stormwater management.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • High School graduate with a minimum of two years of training involving both related on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers in erosion control, biological monitoring and natural resources.
  • Must be proficient in written and communication skills with the ability to communicate information clearly both in writing and orally.
  • Must be computer literate and familiar with related software.
  • Must have good organization skills and legible penmanship.
  • Must be able to work full-time which may include some weekends and evenings.
  • Will be required to obtain a base pass, therefore, must have a valid driver`s license and own transportation as well as required supporting documents such as a picture ID and/or Passport, I94 document, original police/court clearances, etc. in order to apply for a base pass.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Heavy lifting of 45 lbs. or more and light lifting under 15 pounds
  • Standing, walking, kneeling
  • Area of work may be under excessive heat and humidity and noise.
  • Area of work will be outside and/or inside
  • Installation, inspection/monitoring, and repair of environmental controls such as silt fences and sandbags.
