Restaurant Manager

Nature of work in this class:

Primary and directly responsible for supervising floor personnel; (Wait Service & Buss Persons, & Cashiers); directly responsible for delivery of serious customer services; responsible for the preparation of work schedules and resolving customer complaints and concerns. The employee is responsible for general operations of the restaurant while on shift duty. Generally, oversee and coordinate the planning, organizing, training and leadership necessary to achieve stated objectives in sales, costs, employee retention, guest service and satisfaction, food quality, cleanliness and sanitation.

Listed below are the duties and responsibilities of the position:

  1. Understand completely all policies, procedures, standards specifications, guidelines and training programs.
  2. Supervise all front of the house personnel to include the back of the House personnel I the absence of the kitchen manager.
  3. Develops and maintains an effective shift operation through proper selection, training and assignment of personnel.
  4. Maintain good employee relations.
  5. Assist subordinates in day-to-day customer/guests related situations.
  6. Ensure that all food and product are consistently prepared and served according to the restaurant recipes, portioning, cooking and serving standards.
  7. Regularly review the progress of work for all, on shift, employees.
  8. Achieve company objectives in sales, service, quality, appearance of facility, sanitation and cleanliness through training of employees.
  9. Creating a positive, productive working environment.
  10. Control cash and other receipts by adhering to cash handling and reconciliation procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  11. Make employment and termination decisions consistent with restaurant guidelines for approval by general manager.
  12. Fill in when needed to ensure guest service standards and effective operations.
  13. Continually strives for professional employee development.
  14. Prepares all required paperwork, including forms, reports and schedules in an organized and timely manner.
  15. Documents any and all concerns and challenges of guests on the What’s Happening form for general manager and owners.
  16. Directs meetings to resolve customer related problem and concerns.
  17. Develop and implement work schedule for all front of the house  personnel.
  18. Conduct employee performance evaluation for all front of the house personnel.
  19. Maintains Inventory levels of all products ensuring nothing is out of stock.
  20. Provide advice and suggestions to the general manager.
  21. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Demonstrates ability to coordinate a high level of activity under a variety of conditions

· Strong supervisory, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills

· Working knowledge of Planning, organizational & leadership skills

· Knowledgeable in the concepts of human resources

· Ability to resolve issues to the satisfaction of the guests

· Full understanding of customer services concepts & procedures of the company

· Ability to lead and motivate staff

· Possess excellent basic math skills and have ability to operate a POS system

· Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours)

· Be able to reach, bend, scoop and frequently lift up to 50 lbs.

· Must have the stamina to work 50 to 60 hours per week

Minimum Work Experiences & Training:

· High school graduate

· Working experience of three (3) or more years, and knowledge of the service and food and beverage industries

· Two (2) years of direct guest contact working experience (front of the house)

· Two (2) years work experience in a supervisory role

Standard Requirements:

· Valid health certificate

· Manager's ABC card

Pay Range Assignment:


Reporting Responsibility:

· Reports directly to General Manager

· Reports indirectly to Director of Operations
