Educational Aide (Special Education)

Department of Defense Education Activity, Department of Defense Education Activity-Pacific-West District, Guam. Federal employees in Guam are currently entitled to receive a 11.88% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary.

Monitoring students during various phases of school day.

Provides assistance in toileting, feeding, eating and personal hygiene.

Supports educational efforts in the Special Education classroom and general education classroom as needed.

Performs administrative tasks such as attendance records, filing, scheduling, and reviewing assignments.

Works with students in accordance with plans developed by the specialist and educator.

Participates in Parent Teacher conferences.

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.

Direct deposit of pay is required.

One year trial or probationary period may be required.

Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.

This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Communications and Media
  • Special Education Support
  • Standards
  • Teaching Others

Foreign Degrees and Course Work from Non-accredited Institutions. Credits or degrees earned from a foreign college or university must be evaluated prior to acceptance.

Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.

A 11.88% non-taxable cost of living expense (COLA) will be added to the salary. COLA may be subject to change without notice.

School year part-time seasonal work schedules include periods in a non-pay/non-duty status during the holiday, spring and summer recess periods, meaning no pay is received during these periods. Also, you will not receive pay for days students are not in attendance, e.g. teacher workday.
