As a Customer Experience Specialist at Big Lots, you will play a vital role in ensuring our customers have a pleasant shopping experience. Your key responsibilities will include greeting customers warmly, assisting them in selecting merchandise, completing transactions efficiently, and answering inquiries about store offerings. Additional tasks may involve unloading shipments, organizing stock, and restocking shelves to keep our store in top shape.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging customers with a positive and approachable attitude.
  • Maintaining a clean and well-stocked environment throughout the store.
  • Assisting in the unloading of merchandise from delivery trucks and organizing it effectively.
  • Independently stocking shelves and recovering merchandise to ensure a neat sales floor.
  • Accurately processing customer transactions through our POS system.
  • Monitoring customer activity to maintain a safe shopping environment.
  • Performing other duties as required to support efficient store operations.

Position requirements include:

  • Education: Preferably high school completion or equivalent; ability to understand and follow operational guidelines.
  • Experience: Prior experience in retail or service industries such as hotels, restaurants, grocery, or drug stores is preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and carry out physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, and pulling continuously with or without accommodations.
  • Availability: Must be available for a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Skills and Competencies: Focus on customer satisfaction, ability to develop potential, results-driven mindset, strong organizational and communication skills, effective problem-solving, and relationship management.

Working conditions include:

  • Retail store environment with extended periods of standing required.
  • Stockroom work that may involve temperature variations.
  • Frequent lifting and rearranging of merchandise.
  • Exposure to dust and extreme temperatures during unloading.
  • Varied work hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Occasional use of ladders may be necessary.
