Maintenance Technician Lead

Location: Groveport, OH

Position Summary:

The Lead position will be responsible for directing and delegating the daily activity of the department. This position is responsible for installation, maintenance, and improvement of process equipment using machine repair, troubleshooting and metal fabrication skills. The Maintenance Lead Technician must be highly quality conscious, aggressively self-directed, motivated team player and a willing trainer eager to gain and share new knowledge.

Primary Responsibilities are, but are not limited to the following:

  • Leading and directing maintenance department activity.
  • Delegating daily work assignments using PM's and Work Orders and utilizing the eMaint function.
  • Auditing the effectiveness of PM's performed by the maintenance department.
  • Communicate with outside vendors for maintenance related items, ordering parts, etc.
  • Accountable for installation and rebuild projects, ensuring timelines are kept.
  • Responsible for inventory tracking and budget conscious purchasing decisions for the department.
  • Using technical drawings and schematics, troubleshoot and repair complex process and facilities equipments.
  • Use machine tools, welding equipment, and measuring devices to fabricate machine parts.
  • Perform various equipment preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Thoroughly document maintenance activity using the CMMS, adequately communicate maintenance issues to appropriate employees.
  • Champion process improvement in assigned areas.
  • Provide Preventative Maintenance support for the facility and equipment.
  • Repair and maintain items necessary to maintain process equipment in "Grade A" condition.
  • Assist in day-to-day support of operators, adjustments, setups, and changeovers.
  • Actively participate in the training of maintenance technicians.
  • Assist other maintenance technicians as required.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, ergonomic standards and safety requirements.
  • Other tasks as apparent or assigned.

  • Must be able and willing to create and maintain a good working relationship with all GPI employees.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to lead and direct other maintenance technicians.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner.
  • Must be able to communicate in English, as well as read, understand and follow work instructions.
  • Ability to follow, retain, and communicate detailed instructions.
  • Must obtain lockout certification and be able to wear OSHA approved safety gear.
  • Proficient in electro mechanics, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Able to read and interpret schematics and drawings.
  • Advanced mechanical/electrical skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong safety, quality and customer orientation.
  • Ability to manage time, organize and prioritize work effectively and efficiently.
  • Willingness to learn and improve personal, team and organizational performance.

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of related maintenance experience and/or combination of work experience and 2-yr. post-secondary education in Industrial, Mechanical or Maintenance field.
  • Experience using e-mail, job databases and spreadsheets.
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA requirements and industrial workplace practices.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Ability to work 8 and up to a 12 hour work day.
  • Ability to work on ladders and lifts at a height above 20 feet.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds with assistance occasionally.
  • Ability to frequently kneel, squat, bend and stoop.
  • Ability to twist, kneel and reach overhead required.
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, lifts, pallet jacks, etc.
