Process Safety Specialist

  2026-02-04     Gables Search Group     Columbus,OH
Description:

Our recruiting firm is partnering with a client to hire a Process Safety Management (PSM) Specialist. This position can be based in Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, or Eastern Michigan and is less customer-facing and more technical, so it's ideal for someone who enjoys detailed, independent work while supporting compliance in industrial refrigeration and chemical processes.

What You'll Do

  • Read and interpret piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Draft and review standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Support PSM elements such as PHAs, MOCs, mechanical integrity inspections, and incident investigations
  • Conduct internal audits and ensure compliance with OSHA 1910.119 and EPA RMP standards
  • Provide clear SOPs and guidance for employees with less technical backgrounds
  • Perform plant walk-throughs when needed, including climbing ladders for inspections
What You'll Bring
  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to understand refrigeration systems and blueprints
  • Experience in occupational safety, process safety, or as a service technician with interest in compliance
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and independent work style
  • Ability to draft clear technical documentation
  • Education in engineering technology, process safety, or equivalent hands-on experience (degree not required)
  • RETA, OSHA 10/30, or similar certifications are a plus
Why This Role Stands Out
  • $50,000-$85,000 based on experience
  • Work-life balance compared to service technician roles
  • Collaborative culture with training and career growth opportunities
  • Company vehicle may be provided depending on travel needs

If you're detail-oriented, mechanically minded, and ready to build your career in process safety, we'd like to share your background with our client.
