Health Information Technician Job Summary: Responsible for organizing, maintaining, and protecting medical records while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality in accordance with regulatory standards. Key Duties:
Review medical records for completeness, signatures, and required documentation
Prepare charts for new admissions and process health information forms
File, retrieve, and maintain medical records in electronic or paper systems
Compile and type routine statistical reports (census, admissions, discharges, length of stay, Medicaid days)
Provide medical record information when requests are appropriate and authorized
Coordinate with other departments regarding medical record procedures
Ensure compliance with confidentiality laws and medical record regulations
Requirements:
Coursework or experience in records management, medical terminology, and typing
Knowledge of medical terminology and confidentiality standards
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to proofread and identify missing or incorrect information
