Description:

Grounds Maintenance Supervisor

Directs grounds personnel in maintaining a functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment. Provides technical expertise in designing landscape and selecting appropriate plant material to incorporate into the Hospital Master Landscape Plan.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises and directs the activities of grounds maintenance personnel. Ensures timely and efficient completion of assigned work. Maintains records and submits monthly service and quality assurance reports.
  • Oversees the design, installation, and maintenance of the campus landscape. Specifies plant material with seasonality in mind. Reviews major landscape proposals and makes recommendations regarding plant selection and use.
  • Monitors the quality of work performed by grounds personnel, providing feedback and coaching as needed.
  • Develops and implements a number of maintenance programs. Acts as liaison between organizations for neighborhood beautification projects.
  • Specifies and coordinates the purchase of tools, equipment and materials needed for daily operations and special projects. Accountable for the operating budget.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations and guidelines, and takes appropriate action to address any safety concerns.

Education Requirement:

Associate's Degree in Horticulture or related field, preferred.

Licensure Requirement:

Valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy and position-specific requirements. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children's Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Certifications:

ODA certified pesticide applicator in turf and ornamental pest control, required.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of horticulture, of OSHA standards and safety management.
  • Robust oral and written communication skills.

Experience:

  • Five years of job related experience, required.
  • Two years of supervisory experience, preferred.
