Join our dynamic Parks and Recreation team as a Special Projects Coordinator! We are seeking a detail-oriented professional to support administrative functions, manage special projects, and ensure effective operations. Ideal candidates will have experience with technology systems, excellent communication skills, and a passion for community service.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, this position conducts analytical services and manages special projects while also serving as the administrative support for the Department's main office. Functions include collaborating with city departments, analyzing performance indicators, identifying areas for improvement, developing data-driven recommendations to enhance parks and recreation services and operations and utilizing several software systems.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: For purposes of 42 USC 12101:

  1. Conducts in-depth research on current trends within the recreation industry.
  2. Evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs and services and recommends adjustments and/or new initiatives based on data and best practices.
  3. Provides administrative support for the Department's main office responding to customer inquiries (phone, email, walk-in), coordinating responses with staff, processing transactions and related services.
  4. Utilizes several technology software systems for transactions and processes related to parks, recreation, facility operations and project management.
  5. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of data related to parks, recreation programming and services.
  6. Drafts clear and concise documents outlining proposed policies, ensuring alignment with industry standards and Department expectations.
  7. Manages various projects related to Department planning and operations, coordinates activities, timelines and correspondence.
  8. Supports efforts to communicate key initiatives, policies, and performance metrics.
  9. Works with the Information Technology Department and vendors to ensure systems are effectively meeting operation needs.
  10. Assists in the development, implementation, and management of parks and recreation programs, events and projects.
  11. Interprets and applies relevant regulations and guidelines.
  12. Prepares reports, presentations, and other materials to communicate program information and findings to staff, management and the public.
  13. Responds to inquiries and complaints from the public regarding Department services.
  14. Coordinates with other departments and stakeholders to ensure effectiveness of operations and thorough procedures.
  15. Monitors program budgets and tracks expenses.
  16. Assists in the development and implementation of Department policies and procedures.
  17. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  18. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable Public Employee Risk and Reduction Program (PERRP) safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Performs other duties as required.

Typical Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college in a related field (Recreation Management, Public Administration, Business Administration) or equivalent experience and education and four (4) to five (5) years of recreation industry experience, which includes some experience interacting with high level officials and managers.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, etc.); routinely required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl on even and uneven surfaces; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 20 lbs. or less.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered sedentary work.
