Laboratory Technician Trainee

Battelle is currently seeking a Laboratory Technician Trainee. This position is located in West Jefferson, OH.

Battelle's Biomedical Research Center is currently seeking a Laboratory Technician Trainee whose primary responsibility is to provide non-technical support for the task work and maintenance to support the Battelle Biomedical Research Center Biological and Chemical Surety laboratories. Provide support for BSL-2/BSL-3 activities to ensure that the facility and equipment is properly maintained in accordance with GLP, ISO and other required regulations. Responsible for ordering reagents, supplies, and equipment. This position is Monday through Friday and will work occasional overtime on nights and weekends; schedule may include holidays.

  • Adherence to good safety practices is a critical job component.
  • Keeping good working relationships with suppliers to negotiate and institute maintenance contracts and quotes for essential laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Perform reading of SOPs used in workplace in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that proper documentation is being kept for facility equipment such as incubators, refrigerators, freezers, and autoclaves. Responsible for ensuring that all facility equipment and their respective logbooks and records are maintained.
  • Work independently and effectively in a team environment and display an interest in developing job skills and in gaining additional expertise through training and/or educational study.
  • Maintain a good work attendance record and be punctual for all tasks.
  • Assist supervisor in planning personal daily/weekly/monthly work schedule and training schedule to optimize time on project and development of technical knowledge of facility operations.

Key Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Must be US Citizen.
  • Current certification in the Biological Suitability Assessment Program (or submission in process).
  • Current DoJ Security Risk Assessment (SRA) approval.
  • Current CDC approval to work with BSAT material (or submission in process).
  • Current experience working within (BSL3) (biocontainment) environment and able to wear appropriate respiratory protection.
  • Must be willing to be immunized with FDA licensed vaccines and Investigational New Drugs (IND) recommended for persons at risk to occupational exposure of biological agents.
  • Must be willing to participate in random drug screening.
  • Respond appropriately to various alarms and potential emergency situations.
  • Sufficiently medically fit to do work in a lab wearing appropriate respiratory equipment and perform all assigned duties.
  • Ability to work night, weekend, and holiday hours as required.
  • Newly hired employees are subject to a 90-day Introductory Period, during which their performance is evaluated by supervision.
