Description
The City of Oxford is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Dispatcher/Clerk in the Police Department. This is a Classified position and applicants will be required to take a written exam on the National Testing Network website ().
Dispatcher/Clerks are responsible for dispatching calls for animal control, parking control and the City's Service Department. Receive a variety of police related requests and must have decision-making skills to determine how those requests should be routed. Clerical position responsible for entering parking receipt data and word processing of reports and forms, and entering and maintaining records. Receives parking violation fines and reconciles daily cash receipts. Position requires learning and establishing competency with various parking and law enforcement software programs. Proficient multi-tasking is required. Position involves handling requests, sometimes simultaneously, by phone, in person, by radio, and by other city employees. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are also required. Position works varying shifts, holidays, and weekends. 40 hours per week, 8-hour shifts, and occasional overtime.
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; 6 months of related experience preferred (not required); or any combination of education, training, and work experience which provides the required skill sets to perform the essential functions of the job. Candidates must be able to pass a psychological evaluation, background investigation, polygraph examination, and pre-employment physical.
Applicants must successfully complete the National Testing Network's (NTN) Frontline National Exam (minimum weighted score of 70%), which will be used as the initial step to establish an eligibility list.
Additional credit for education, military service, or City of Oxford service credit will be applied to the scores in accordance with Rule V of the Classified Service Procedures and Personnel Appeals Board Rules and Regulations. To schedule a test, go to , select Emergency Communications Jobs, and sign-up for the City of Oxford Police Department. All applicants who take the test will be notified of their individual results.
Applicants who pass the test will then have an additional credit added to their test score and be placed on an eligibility list. Candidates who are in the top 5 (at a minimum) of the eligibility list will be interviewed and begin the background process. Additional interviews may be required. As candidates are excluded from the eligibility list, the next viable candidates may be interviewed. Candidates are removed from the eligibility list after being on the list for one year.
A recommendation for hire will be made from the top 5 viable candidates on the eligibility list. Once a conditional offer of employment is made, candidates will continue in the background process, to include a polygraph examination, psychological exam, and medical exam.
