The Tax Accountant will support the company's tax compliance, reporting, and planning functions. This role provides exposure to corporate income tax, business licensing, recurring filing compliance with various governing jurisdictions, and tax provision processes under ASC 740 while working directly with the Senior Manager of Tax. The ideal candidate will bring strong Excel skills, eagerness to build tax software expertise, and a foundational understanding of U.S. corporate tax compliance and reporting. Essential job responsibilities include:
Tax Compliance
Prepare workpapers supporting federal and state corporate income tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments, working with the Tax Manager and outside tax advisors.
Assist with research and documentation of book-tax differences and significant tax transactions.
Support indirect tax filings including business licenses, unclaimed property, property tax, and annual reports/statutory registrations.
Maintain organized tax records and supporting documentation.
Monitor and assist with state tax controversy matters, including drafting and reviewing responses to notices.
Tax Provision & Reporting
Assist with quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations under ASC 740.
Compile and analyze data for provision-to-return reconciliations.
Prepare documentation for interim and year-end accrual computations and financial audit inquiries.
Assist with off-cycle, quarterly, and year-end tax accrual calculations for the U.S. consolidated group.
Update provision models to reflect current tax law changes.
Tax Technology & Analysis
Utilize tax software tools for calculations, reporting, and data management.
Work with Sage Intacct, Bloomberg Tax Provision, and Bloomberg Tax Fixed Assets (experience preferred, training available).
Perform advanced Excel analysis, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and data reconciliation.
Research & Support
Conduct basic tax research and draft written summaries to support filing positions.
Assist with responses to tax notices and information requests.
Support special projects including acquisitions, debt restructuring, or tax planning initiatives.
Stay informed on current tax developments and summarize relevant updates for the Tax Manager.
Other
Collaborate with Finance, Legal, HR, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable teams to gather information for filings and forecasts.
Assist in audits by organizing and providing requested documentation.
Perform other projects as assigned.
Required Skills/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
13 years of corporate tax experience, preferably a mix of public accounting or corporate industry.
Working knowledge of U.S. corporate income tax compliance rules and filing requirements.
Exposure to multi-state and consolidated corporate filing structures.
Working knowledge of ASC 740 concepts with awareness of FIN 48 considerations.
Working knowledge of deferred taxes and uncertain tax positions.
Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and its application to income taxes.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, data validation, etc.).
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
CPA eligibility or progress toward CPA preferred but not required.
Public accounting experience.
Experience with Sage Intacct, Bloomberg Tax Provision, and/or Bloomberg Tax Fixed Assets preferred.
International tax exposure a plus.
