The CompanyThe Columbus Association for the Performing Arts CAPA is more than just a performing arts organization its a cornerstone of creativity culture and community in Central Ohio At CAPA we are committed to inspiring and transforming lives through the power of the performing arts With the rich history and a dynamic vision for the future we manage iconic theaters host world class performances and foster a love of the arts in audiences of all ages The OpportunityJoin CAPAs finance team and help support the arts with your unique talents Youll play an important role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting the nonprofit organizations that enrich Central Ohios cultural community Primary FunctionWe are seeking a staff Accountant to join our team The Staff Accountant will be responsible for various accounting functions for CAPA and will perform similar duties for nonprofit organizations that are managed by CAPA Duties Responsibilities and Key Performance ObjectivesKey ResponsibilitiesCash & Payables Complete monthly bank reconciliations monitor daily cash activity and oversee accounts payable processingMonth End & General Accounting Prepare journal entries and maintain schedules for general ledger accountsFinancial Reporting Assist with monthly financial statementsAudit & Compliance Prepare audit schedules and assist with non profit tax filings and grant reporting periodicallyBudget & Projects Support the annual budget process and contribute to special projects and process improvements as neededKey Performance ObjectivesEnsure timely accounts payable processing paying invoices within 10 days of due dates 98 of the timeManage company month end close schedules to meet agreed upon timelinesProvide audit support for shared service partners generally responding to audit requests within 48 hours of receiptAdditional DutiesMeet with supervisor department leaders shared service management and others to understand interactions with the accounting department and this role specifically Collaborate with finance team to improve document and share best practices within the departmentThis job description is not designed to cover or contain an exhaustive listing of duties responsibilities and key performance objectives that are expected of the employee These items may change or new job related items may be assigned from time to timeKnowledge Skills and AbilitiesAbility to work independently with little supervision and be committed to completing tasks on a timely basisStrong attention to detail and accuracyExcellent communication and interpersonal skills are essentialKnowledge of accounting concepts and proficiency in standard office computer softwareCredentials and ExperienceBachelors degree in AccountingFinance or related coursework is required2 3 years accounting experience in an office environment is preferred; experience in a non profit accounting role is a plusSpecial RequirementsBackground Check
