Overview

Health Physicist – Medical 2 role at Inside Higher Ed. This position is located at The Ohio State University / Wexner Medical Center and involves radiation safety, regulatory compliance, and support for radiation-generating devices and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely completion of radioactive sealed source inventories and leak tests; calibrations of radiation detection equipment; dose calibrator accuracy and linearity measurements; and radiological surveys.
  • Daily maintenance of waste storage facilities and radiation detection monitors; provide room setup, surveys, and decontamination for outpatient and inpatient therapies.
  • Provide patient consultation and education prior to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; discuss precautions and patient concerns; perform exposure calculations; and determine patient release criteria.
  • Review and contribute to the Quality Management Program; develop and/or provide radiation safety training.
  • Review the security of radioactive materials, radiation safety postings, and support radioactive materials receipt, transportation, and waste disposal programs.
  • Support the OSUWMC dosimetry and personnel exposure monitoring program; monitor training requirements; assist with registration of radiation generating devices; support decommissioning activities; and provide radiation safety training.
  • Participate in emergency response; this position is subject to 24-hour call in response to emergencies and patient situations.
  • Completion of a criminal background check and successful completion within 90 days of employment of the Trustworthy and Reliable process for access to areas of increased controls. Hours may vary.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor's degree of science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Experience Required

Two years of experience in the safe handling of radioactive materials and radiation-generating devices. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience in implementation of compliance activities and knowledge of state and federal radiation safety regulations.

Desired Qualifications

2-4 years of relevant experience.
