Site Civil Project Manager, Engineering - Columbus OH

This role provides technical and managerial leadership to project teams in planning, evaluation, design and implementation of civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will lead the study and/or design phase of civil and construction projects, direct/coordinate the development of new civil engineering designs, and contribute to business development and client retention efforts. The Project Manager will manage assigned P&L and represent the Company positively. Advanced knowledge of at least two engineering software packages and a Professional Engineering license in Ohio are required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Consult with project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for construction of designs and modifications.
- Use design software and drawing tools to render and communicate designs; plan and design improvements related to the project.
- Set design specifications by computing engineering requirements (e.g., water flow, traffic demand, earthwork).
- Plan projects based on analysis of materials such as drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports, maps, and other data.
- Draft and present detention reports and engineering due diligence reports.
- Estimate probable construction costs and develop project plans, budgets, staffing, and equipment needs.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineers to ensure project progress; coordinate with surveyors to establish installations, reference points, grades, elevations, and other construction factors.
- Monitor project progress to ensure design specifications and standards are met; write proposals for advanced projects.
- Assign projects and oversee team members for accuracy, timeliness, and time entry; manage workload of assigned staff.
- Teach and explain civil engineering methodologies; demonstrate advanced understanding of civil engineering practices.
- Interact with clients to understand goals and relay them to the design team; develop business by selling services to existing clients.
- Guide assigned team to meet client goals on time and on budget; develop, mentor, train, evaluate, and coach staff.
- Assign projects to Co-Ops, Graduate Civil Engineers, Associate Civil Engineers, Civil Project Engineers, and Senior Civil Project Engineers aligned with abilities.
- Motivate and lead team members to successful project completion; review projects for regulatory compliance based on state and local requirements.
- Hire, train, evaluate, assign, and discipline staff as necessary.
Business Development Tasks
- Prospect and pursue qualified referrals; make introductions for expressed client interest.
- Prepare proposals and work with Marketing to develop statements of qualifications (SOQs); lead successful client kickoff meetings.
- Adhere to marketing initiatives and activity standards; nurture relationships with previous and current clients.
- Execute project closeout activities and perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education, & Experience
- Civil Engineering degree (or related field).
- Minimum 7 consecutive years of Civil Engineering experience.
- Public speaking ability desired.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Advanced understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
- Proficiency with CAD/design software and data recording/analysis tools.
- Understanding of materials, methods, and tools for site and transportation infrastructure construction.
- Ability to identify and solve complex problems; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, creative and analytical thinker; strong organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods at a desk; ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
- Travel to various project sites; access to and ability to navigate job sites and construction areas.
