GPD is currently seeking a Civil Engineering Field Tech for our Telecom team in our Akron or Columbus, OH market locations.
The Civil Engineering Field Tech is responsible for the gathering, organizing, and execution of construction documents for Telecommunication Infrastructure projects. The role's key functions are to gather and identify the needed information to compile construction documents. This is inclusive of site visits, coordinating with key stakeholders (clients, owners, jurisdictions), understanding the components of design, design planning, problem solving, and CAD design. To succeed in this role, the candidate needs to be self-organized and possess a willingness to be in the field, be proactive with stakeholders to resolve design items, and meet jurisdictional requirements. Positive attitude and professionalism are essential traits for success in this role.
Role Qualifications:
- 0-5 years of experience.
- Experience in supporting architects and engineers in design and documentation for project work.
- Experience in developing construction documents and engineering reports in the fast-paced multi-site industry.
- Associates degree of Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Technology required.
- Bachelor's degree of Civil, Mechanical, Structural, or Electrical Engineering Technology will also be considered.
- AutoCAD experience required.
- Bluebeam and MS Office products experience preferred.
- Field survey and construction administration experience preferred.
- Ability for regular travel for site visits is required. Travel to sites will mainly be in the Midwest market but at times could be regional. Locations can vary from urban buildings and utility poles to rural and remote.
- Ability to work with jurisdictions and accurately fill out permit applications and respond to comments.
- Ability to resolve issues from municipalities, architects, engineers, contractors and clients.
- Ability to think critically and be resourceful in an independent travel setting.
- Ability to work within a team environment working with individuals from various offices and in various disciplines through all phases of design.
- Ability to communicate directly with clients.
- Have a working knowledge of codes, standards, and building construction methods.
- Must be organized and possess strong communication skills and professional writing skills
- Valid Driver's License is required.
- Successful completion of required drug screening.
Role Responsibilities:
- Engineering design and documentation with an emphasis in Telecommunications Infrastructure projects.
- Translate and interpret field data into design solutions and create construction documents.
- Preparation of construction documents based upon field surveys, available resources and client requirements using AutoCAD.
- Travel and field work in the Midwest area to collect data for planning purposes to develop construction documents. Travel throughout the East coast and Midwest.
- Planning with the project manager and team.
- Technical problem-solving.
- Develop calculations, diagrams and models to support technical solutions.
- Collaboration with all disciplines and stakeholders.
- Researching design solutions and products.
- Performs site and building feasibility and due diligence reports.
- Researches and understands the filing requirements for authority having jurisdiction based on project scope of work.
- Coordinates permit submittals, corrections, approvals, and pick-ups.
- Creates and tracks project information in relation to the progress of various permitting processes.
