This description reflects the role and responsibilities for a staff-level position within the Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Engineering Technician function.

The Opportunity

The VDDS Engineering Technician 4 functions in a senior-level engineering technician capacity. With minimal supervision, this role performs advanced tasks requiring knowledge of electronic applications, standards, and document control processes to support creating and modifying deliverables. The role may provide technical guidance and delegation of work to other engineering professionals. The ideal candidate has basic experience with AutoCAD Electrical (SDS) and basic experience with Protection & Controls drawings (AIS and/or GIS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineering Standards: Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, codes, and Black & Veatch policies and procedures.
  • Quality / Continuous Improvement: Proactively apply knowledge of the Black & Veatch Quality Program relative to deliverables; demonstrate personal accuracy; support continuous improvement and change management; review design inputs for consistency; assist in ensuring deliverables comply with project-specific codes and standards.
  • Engineering Production: Broaden the use of applications to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures; create and develop deliverables based on design inputs; may develop less complex design concepts and perform related computations (e.g., material quantities and estimates).
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate deliverables with other groups on the project to minimize errors; may support field activities; may assist with finalization tasks such as consolidation of records for as-built drawings.
  • Client Focus: Understand internal client needs while aligning with external client drivers.
  • Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology: Seek and share knowledge of latest technologies and processes; apply judgment in deliverable interpretation.
  • People Management: May provide work direction and guidance to others.
Minimum Qualifications
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements as applicable, including background checks, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, per laws and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Diploma or Certificate preferred
  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred
  • Typically a minimum of 3 years related work experience
