Full-time position
Location: MediaSource is located in Columbus, OH. This is a hybrid role that includes both remote work and in-person collaboration a minimum of twice a week.
The Public Relations Manager is responsible for the success and qualitty of our public relations services. They are expected to be able to take responsibility for any project in public relations including campaign success, earning top-tier media placement results, client relations, financial/budget forecasts and reports. The manager is a positive mentor to junior staff and has a tangible impact on the workflow and vision of the department.
Responsibilities:
Ability to positively influence strategic direction, identify the need and create approporiate high impact deliverables. Plans, organizes and executes strategic communications plans that align with MediaSource and client priorities, initiatives and business goals.
Focused on quality standards at a project level, especially but not limited to earning impactful media results.
Cultivates and manages relationships with journalists, and leverages those relationships to get results for MediaSource clients.
Navigates the intersection of what reporters want and what will dazzle brand leadership to deliver win-win coverage.
Expert on industry trends, evolutions in the news ecosystem and established best practices to leverage this knowledge and garner media results.
Leads meetings and takes deliberate steps to organize the team and drive department forward.
Functions as main contact for larger clients/projects, sharing guidance and direction for other collaborators.
Manages up to three direct reports. Collaborates with and delegates to employees who are responsible for gathering client coverage across paid, earned, shared and owned media with a heavy focus on earned media outcomes. Coaches others, drives accountability and proactively clears barriers to ensure team success.
Understands budget models, scope and resource allocation for projects and departments and can make resource responsible decisions to increase profitability.
Works with MediaSource Creative and Strategy/Analytics team to further client goals based on new media trends and opportunities.
Works with the Director of Public Relations, VP of Public Relations and other senior leaders to reenforce and carry out the company culture and vision.

Requirements:
Must be a quick learner who is a self-starter with the ability to complete assigned tasks quickly and independently.
Ability to be a good team player, collaborate and delegate as needed.
Stays current with national, regional and local news and current events and applies that to routine work with clients and news media.
Mastery of the current earned media landscape, including a deep understanding of how the media works. (familiarity with news programming, TV feeds and news syndication)
Strong news judgment and creative thinking ability resulting in innovative approaches that earn results.
Ability to balance client sensitivities and priorities with media demands for consistently positive outcomes.
Excellent writer of new media materials.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail with ability to keep on track with goals, duties and update internal staff on a regular basis of progress.
Experience in story development, using media landscape knowledge as a foundation for suggesting stories that would fit into the current news cycle.
Idea generator who can take stale or stagnant ideas and build them into fresh, effective public relations strategies.
Success in this position requires the ability to take initiative and ownership of responsibilities and tasks assigned.
Ability to adapt to change in requests and direction.
Comfortable in an environment which uses honest, direct and authentic communication routinely.
Education: Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism or strategic communications preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years experience in public relations with a proven track record of earning high impact media relations results. Client leadership/account management experience is desired. Newsroom background is helpful. Proficient in Google office, media databases and Asana project management system (preferred).
