A valid Ohio driver's license. Satisfactory criminal background check in accordance with Ohio law. Such alternatives to the above as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Preferred: Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or related fields. Mechanical experience with small engines and equipment for athletic maintenance, grounds, and other commercial equipment. Experience with care, maintenance, and lining of playing and athletic fields. Encouraged to have and maintain an up-to-date Ohio Industrial Examining Board license or certification for the position. Essential Functions: Grounds and Landscape Maintenance Maintain all district grounds and school property, ensuring a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment. This includes regular care of lawns, shrubbery, and parking lots. Perform comprehensive lawn care, including mowing, trimming, and the raking and disposal of foliage. Remove snow from driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, and entrances as thoroughly as equipment allows to ensure safe passage. Apply herbicides and pesticides as needed, adhering to all safety guidelines and regulations. Empty and clean outside trash barrels and receptacles regularly to maintain cleanliness and prevent pest issues. Assist with the lining and painting of athletic fields, as well as their ongoing maintenance. Equipment and Vehicle Management Identify and submit requests for necessary materials and equipment for maintaining facilities, grounds, and playground equipment to the appropriate supervisor. Develop and implement a maintenance plan for all groundskeeping vehicles and equipment, including trucks, trailers, and tractors, to ensure their safe and efficient operation. Determine and perform proper methods of repair on equipment to minimize downtime and ensure functionality. Safely operate all hand and power tools, as well as all groundskeeping equipment and necessary vehicles. Safety and Compliance Prioritize the safety of students and yourself in all groundskeeping activities. Follow all detailed oral and written instructions to ensure tasks are completed correctly and safely. Attend all provided training and professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices and safety protocols. Collaboration and Communication Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all district personnel, including the Maintenance Office Manager, to ensure coordinated care and upkeep of district grounds. Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors/administrators regarding work progress, challenges, and needs. Prepare and maintain accurate documentation related to groundskeeping activities and equipment. Train other personnel on proper groundskeeping procedures to promote consistent and safe practices across the district. Property Upkeep and General Duties Regularly check, repair, or replace signage on school property to ensure visibility and compliance. Outline and submit plans for the upkeep and maintenance of all school property. Paint facilities, when requested, contribute to the overall appearance of district buildings. Ability to diagnose malfunctions of equipment. Ability to diagnose and repair minor defects in equipment needed for the position. Knowledge of basic principles of electricity, basic principles of plumbing, and basic principles of carpentry. Ability to operate groundskeeping equipment and vehicles in a safe manner. Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings, and labels. Follow oral and written instructions. Ability to use computers to submit and receive work orders, perform training requirements, email, and correspond with vendors and staff. Required Knowledge and Use of Equipment and Software: Electronic devices include copiers, printers, scanners, laminators, and fax machines. Motor vehicles, trucks, tractors, forklifts, hydraulic lifts, various hand tools, battery-powered, gas, and electric-run equipment, lawn and athletic equipment, and locking mechanisms on doors and cabinets. Computer, laptop, tablet, or other digital equipment for work related to maintenance and grounds. Keys and locking mechanisms on doors, cabinets, windows, etc. District-employed software. By way of example, this includes any specific technology the District uses, including Google Education software: Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Forms, Sheets, and Google Ed products. Applications (apps) or devices used to calculate numbers or used for purposes of a dictionary, thesaurus, grammar correction, or other applications accessed for this position. Phone equipment and all phone functions include transferring, holding, and sending callers to voicemail. Working Conditions: May occasionally be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue. Frequent interruption of tasks to support students, staff, parents/guardians, community members, and visitors. Work Outdoors in All Weather - work outside, exposed to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow. Physical Demands - frequent physical activity, including sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing, reading, speaking, reaching, stretching, crouching, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and stooping. Lifting and Moving - must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull large and heavy items up to 60 lbs, utilizing proper lifting equipment. Move around the school and grounds to assist others. Ability to climb steps or ladders to access various work areas. Frequently operate vehicles and equipment, sometimes in inclement weather. Frequent work with chemicals, in confined spaces, and with electrical equipment. Occasionally work around asbestos, requiring adherence to proper procedures and use of appropriate equipment.
