Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Conduct field investigations and perform failure/accident analysis on incidents involving all types of vehicles and mechanical equipment and their impact on the human body
  • Conduct research/ and forensic investigations in the areas of impact biomechanics, occupant protection, ergonomics, workplace safety, medical devices, and vehicular accident reconstruction
  • Evaluate bodily injuries inflicted by machinery, automobiles, mechanical equipment or slip/trip and falls
  • Apply engineering principles in accordance with industry standards to investigation analysis
  • Conduct vehicular accident reconstruction analysis
  • Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients
  • Prepare and submit written reports that document failure(s), extent of loss, cause(s) and recommended remediation
  • Explain to clients, in layman's terms, your investigation, analysis and what you determined to be the cause of the failure
  • Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups
  • Ability to support conclusions by appropriate expert testimony in legal proceedings
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending company-paid educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies
  • Responsible for retention and development of client relations
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance
  • Regular and predictable presence at work

Position Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomechanics or similar degree required
  • Education or training in Impact Biomechanics
  • Minimum of three years of post-academic work experience
  • Ability to obtain the P. E. registration through testing
  • Post academic engineering experience outside of academia
  • Desire to learn accident reconstruction
  • Public speaking experience a plus
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel 25% of the time
  • Ability to maneuver in and around an accident site
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to carry equipment to and from job sites
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to drive in all conditions
  • Ability to fly on airplanes
  • Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
  • Ability to learn a new industry and obtain required certifications
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance
  • Regular and predictable presence at work
