Description:

Hoyt Center for the Arts seeks an Assistant Education Director.

Purpose: To support the overall education program, with an emphasis on leading the planning, implementation and evaluation of After School Arts, artist residencies and special initiatives in concert with the Education Director. Duties will include serving as an educator/instructor, as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Degree in elementary education or child development (Bachelor's preferred)
  • Knowledge and experience in the philosophy and practices of childhood education and classroom management
  • Ability to use abstract reasoning, problem solving, planning, and analytical skills in: training, evaluation, and program development;
  • Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills for supervisory duties;
  • Effective writing and oral communication skills to conduct meetings and training sessions, and to prepare reports that are clear, complete, comprehensive, and use good grammar and punctuation;
  • Successful experience working in a team setting;
  • Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community;
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer and office equipment, including, but not limited to the telephone, fax machine, and copier
  • Must be able to travel, enter and exit a vehicle without assistance, and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions
  • Experience successfully working with a culturally diverse staff and clients.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement and evaluate special initiatives as assigned, including but not limited to:
    • Assessing materials/equipment needed
    • Developing curricula
    • Providing instruction
    • Monitoring participation
    • Tracking outcomes for Evaluation
    • Preparing reports
  • Coordinate, supervise and evaluate artist residences, as assigned, including but no limited to:
    • Assessing materials/equipment needed
    • Communicating with resident artists
    • Arranging for lodging, transportation, and meals, as appropriate
    • Monitoring participation
    • Supervising residency activity
    • Tracking outcomes for Evaluation
  • Assist the Education Director maintaining a robust and mission-driven calendar of education programs.Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Supervising classroom practices on and off-site to assure their adherence with program policies, procedures and contracts.
    • Coordinating guest artists and assembly programs on and off-site
    • Conducting student interviews/evaluations
    • Identifying and prioritizing materials and equipment needed in the classrooms and studios
    • Assisting in volunteer recruitment and training related to the Education Program
    • Instructing educational programs in the gallery and/or classroom
    • Instructing educational programs at Hoyt or community events
    • Participating in program evaluation and reporting
    • Assuring student files and documentation is complete, accurate, and confidential
    • Attending staff, board and program meetings, as needed.
    • Performing other duties, as may be required.

Physical Job Requirements: While performing this job, the employee will be required to sit, stand and work, to lift up to 30 lbs occasionally, do close work with a computer monitor and perform repetitive hand movements. Employee must be able to communicate verbally.

Compensation Package:

  • Eligibility for 3% retirement match after one year.
  • Eligibility for ICHRA (health plan) immediately.Contribution is determined by age.
  • Family Membership

Hours: Monday & Friday: 8 am – 4 pm. Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday: 10 am – 6 pm. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
