Job Summary:

Our company, a well-established leader in the industrial components sector, is seeking an accurate and efficient Parts Picker to join our busy Shipping Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately locating and pulling parts and products from inventory based on customer orders or production requests, preparing them for shipment, and ensuring orders are fulfilled correctly and on time. This role is crucial for maintaining customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately pick parts, components (such as fittings, connectors, and related items), and finished goods from designated warehouse locations according to pick lists, sales orders, or electronic scanning system instructions.
  • Verify part numbers, quantities, and product descriptions to ensure picking accuracy.
  • Prepare picked orders for shipment, which may include counting, sorting, bagging, boxing, and labeling items.
  • Ensure proper packaging techniques are used to prevent damage during transit.
  • Operate material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and potentially forklifts (if certified/trained), to move materials and orders.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the warehouse and shipping department.
  • Report any discrepancies in inventory, damaged goods, or order inaccuracies to the Shipping Supervisor.
  • Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory activities as required.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with other shipping department staff, warehouse personnel, and customer service to ensure smooth order fulfillment.
  • May use computer systems or scanners to track orders, update inventory, and print shipping labels.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a warehouse, shipping, order picking, or inventory control role is highly preferred.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret part numbers, pick lists, and shipping documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Experience with RF scanners or other warehouse management system (WMS) tools is a plus.
  • Basic math skills for counting and verifying quantities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with shipping procedures and packaging techniques is beneficial.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Forklift certification is a plus, or willingness to be trained.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and/or move objects typically weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to handle small parts and operate packaging equipment.
  • Good vision (with or without correction) to accurately identify part numbers and inspect items.

Work Environment:

  • This position operates primarily within a warehouse and shipping dock environment.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures (depending on dock doors opening/closing and seasonal weather) is common.
  • Adherence to the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, and potentially gloves or safety glasses, as required.
