Job Summary:

FOCUS Broadband seeks a motivated Fiber Optic Engineer to join our growing and innovative team. As a Fiber Optic Engineer, you will design, engineer, and map outside plant fiber optic networks to facilitate the networks being constructed or redesigned within the FOCUS Broadband service areas. The Fiber Optic Engineer will oversee projects and interactions with our in-house teams and subcontractors throughout FOCUS Broadbands expanding service areas. Success in this role involves learning Fiber to the Premise (FTTP), CAD, and GIS functions. Approximately 30% of your duties will involve traveling to work sites within the service area to oversee installation subcontractors. Collaboration with various teams inside and outside FOCUS Broadband is essential.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of fiber telecommunications OSP systems design, construction practices, and industry regulations affecting engineering projects, including Trunk, Trunk Feeder, and Distribution to the home.
  • Aptitude to learn various FOCUS Broadband systems and Microsoft programs, including Adobe Acrobat.
  • Design, maintain, and update construction sheets, splicing details, and draw details into ArcGIS for the construction team. Prepare and obtain all necessary state and municipal permits for construction on state ROW or city streets.
  • Assist with construction coordination across FOCUS Broadbands service area, providing excellent customer service and professionalism.
  • Ensure accuracy in construction designs, adhering to standard practices, safety precautions, and MUTCD standards in work zones.
  • Visit field locations to gather accurate field notes for staking new construction and modifying existing outside plant, including obtaining right-of-way permits, encroachments, or easements.
  • Facilitate smooth construction progress by ensuring preliminary work (permits, easements, notifications) is completed before work orders are released, coordinating with utilities and developers as needed.
  • Understand FTTP brownfield and greenfield projects.
  • Assist in all transition phases between existing and new plant facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, or an associate degree with at least 8 years of FTTX experience. Technical fields may include electrical engineering, project management, computer systems, etc.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • FTTP experience is preferred.
