Description:

GAI Consultants is seeking an Assistant Environmental Specialist 2 (Ecological Field Lead) to conduct wetland delineations and other environmental resources field investigations for energy-related projects. The successful candidate will work in a challenging, fast-paced, team-oriented environment, utilizing their experience to develop professionally. This position offers a flexible Hybrid workplace, in accordance with our Telework Policy, and a sign-on bonus.

As Ecological Field Lead, you will:

  1. Lead ecological field surveys including wetland and stream delineations, endangered species surveys, botanical investigations, environmental inspections, and compliance monitoring.
  2. Collaborate with a team of professionals on ecological studies and environmental investigations across the eastern U.S.
  3. Prepare technical reports for wetland delineations and other environmental assessments for energy projects.

As Ecological Field Lead, you are:

  1. A trusted leader skilled in directing technical and logistical aspects of field studies in remote locations.
  2. An expert in ecological and environmental sciences, including wetland ecology and delineation procedures.
  3. Willing to travel regularly, working on-site in remote and challenging terrains, interacting with agencies, clients, and the public. Weekly travel is expected, involving hiking in rough terrain and exposure to outdoor hazards, with long or irregular hours.

Qualifications include:

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Studies, Fish and Wildlife Science, Natural Resources, or related fields.
  2. Relevant experience in environmental or biological sciences.
  3. Proven expertise in wetland delineations in OH, WV, PA, VA, MD, or surrounding states. Wetland delineation training and certification (PWS/WPIT) are strongly preferred.
  4. Experience with botanical, avian, mammal, and aquatic surveys is a plus, with opportunities to lead these efforts.

Travel Requirements

  • Expected 90% daily travel throughout VA, PA, WV, and OH, with overnight stays required.

Additional Information

Minimum of 2-3 years of experience, a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or a similar field, and a valid Driver's License are required. Candidates should possess basic communication skills, ability to follow procedures, and be prepared for frequent travel and fieldwork in outdoor conditions.
