Quality Lab Technician

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow a batch ticket (recipe) with high degree of accuracy for weights and measurements.

  • Perform a wide variety of complex testing processes on production batches to measure product's physical or chemical characteristics, including viscosity, weight per unit of measure, flow, gloss, color characteristics, and other similar tests.

  • Test materials from suppliers and batches from production.

  • Perform standard testing procedures, including preparation of materials, with attention to detail and high quality.

  • Follow daily work plan for Lab Work Request or project plan.

  • Accurately document work in lab notebooks (either physical or electronic).

  • Recognize roadblocks or anomalies; resolve them or communicate concerns with a chemist in a timely manner.

  • Ensure raw materials are available and correctly labelled.

  • Correctly label and mail samples.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

  • Tint batches without assistance.

  • Calculate resin composites.

  • Maintain QC records using a web-based computer system.

  • Prepare records for submission.

  • Perform testing on lab equipment such as viscosity, pH, weight per gallon, and % solids.

  • Perform draw downs.

  • Use ovens.

  • Maintain and perform calibrations on machines.

Essential Skills

  • Prior quality/wet lab experience or entry-level graduate with AS or BS in Science.

  • Not color blind.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience with color matching.

  • Experience working with paint, pigments, and coatings.

  • Industrial lab experience doing basic wet chemistry such as viscosity, pH, and % solids.

Work Environment

This is an industrial lab environment in the plant. You will be provided with PPE, including a lab coat and safety glasses. On the first day of training, you will be sent to get steel-toed boots/shoes, and reimbursement will be provided. The facility has strong smells of chemicals and paint, so sensitivity to these should be considered. The lab is large, with at least 5 people on each shift at all times.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.25 - $25.25/hr.
