Fives DyAG Corp is seeking a Controls Engineer in the Columbus, OH area.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Controls Engineer will provide technical support for the design, development, and implementation of automated manufacturing systems. This individual primary responsibilities include: the technical engineering of electrical and pneumatic components during the quote, design, and build phase of a project; the generation of software for the designed system using customer standards and known good practices; and integration and support of the equipment during runoff and after installation at the customer facility. They share the responsibility with management that all projects meet customer specifications and exceed end user expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Shared responsibility with project management for performance to budget and timing during all phases of the project.
  2. Understand and strictly follow the standards and specifications for the design of hardware and software of the end user.
  3. Must be able to read and understand electrical drawings, pneumatic drawings, and mechanical sequence of operations and use them to write software.
  4. Understand safety concepts and safety requirements to ensure proper implementation during design and software generation.
  5. Write PLC and HMI Software Programs for different types of equipment/machinery both from scratch and using customer software standards and templates.
  6. Responsible for the completeness of software design prior to power on, ensuring reduced debug project phases.
  7. Specify, layout, and design control hardware assemblies in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical in order to create schematics, layout control panels, and enclosure modification drawings.
  8. Support manufacturing and service at the debug and installation startup phase.
  9. Utilize critical thinking skills to define problems, collect data, and formulate effective solutions to issues in a timely fashion.
  10. Train/aid the end user on the equipment operation as well as hardware and software architecture
  11. Aid the customer and improve customer satisfaction through routine and regular communication.
  12. Act as project manager on smaller projects and report to management on progress, timing, and critical issues.
  13. Must be able to travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning, run-offs, or other related tasks. (expected travel to be around 20-40% with most trips being Monday-Friday)
  14. Ensure the accuracy of all documentation by recording all wiring and field changes and delivering mark-ups to engineering so they are included in the final documentation provided to the customer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  1. Bachelor's Degree- (Electrical Engineering or related preferred) from accredited university is preferred but equivalent experience may also be considered.
  2. Software experience with either Rockwell (Allen Bradley), Siemens (Step 7 or TIA Portal), or Mitsubishi PLC and HMI platforms, or related controls engineering role with preference of experience on multiple platforms. Most projects in this role will be integrated with Rockwell PLCs.
  3. Experience interfacing with robots, servo drives, variable frequency drives, and vision equipment.
  4. Motion controls experience with different types of servo drives and variable frequency drives.
  5. Familiar working with custom automated equipment and machinery ideally with some material handling/conveyor experience.
  6. Hardware Design using AutoCAD Electrical.
  7. Industrial Networks experience such as Ethernet I/P, Profibus, Profinet, Remote I/O & Devicenet.
  8. Plant floor experience strongly preferred.
