Director Business Development (Remote Based)

Industry: Transportation, Brokerage, 3PL

Responsibilities:

  1. Establish relationships with and secure contracts with new customers that achieve assigned sales quotas and targets.
  2. Drive the entire sales cycle from initial customer engagement to closed sales.
  3. Hand-off tactical day-to-day execution for customers to a best-in-class operations support team.
  4. Manage relationships with clients to ensure customer satisfaction through implementation.
  5. Maintain relationships with clients to secure referrals.
  6. Identify prospective opportunities through communications, programs, and other activities as needed.
  7. Prospect for potential customers using various direct methods such as calling and face-to-face meetings, and indirect methods such as networking.
  8. Qualify prospects against company criteria for ideal customers and sales.
  9. Utilize sales-related technology/software including Salesforce, MS Office, and more.
  10. Execute sales call plans and other sales strategies that increase pipeline and new landed business.
  11. Gather, analyze, and compare freight bills from potential new accounts.
  12. Keep detailed notes on prospect and customer interactions.
  13. Provide forecasts on best case and most likely sales volumes over relevant time periods.
  14. Cultivate strong relationships with third-party and partner companies that may be required to deliver full solutions to customers.
  15. Work with marketing to plan and execute lead generation campaigns.
  16. Consult with prospects about business challenges and requirements, as well as the range of options and cost benefits of each.
  17. Maintain a high level of relevant domain knowledge in order to have meaningful conversations with prospects.
  18. Work with best-in-class teammates and specialists where required to address customer requirements.
  19. Prepare presentation material outlining logistic services.
  20. Make presentations to senior managers and decision makers.
  21. Draft and deliver proposals.
  22. Conduct complex negotiations and close deals.
  23. Recommend continuous improvement ideas for sales strategies across the team.
  24. Provide feedback to sales management on ways to decrease the sales cycle, enhance sales, and improve company brand and reputation.
  25. Provide feedback to company management on market trends, competitive threats, unmet needs, and opportunities to deliver greater value to customers by extending company offerings.
  26. Identify sales support requirements and work with marketing to develop and improve sales tools.
  27. Be a positive representative of the company and its brand in the marketplace.
  28. Conduct all sales activities with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity.

Qualifications:

  3. Strong computer skills/knowledge.
  4. Strong problem-solving skills.
  5. Strong math and accounting skills.
  6. Detail-oriented.
  7. Work well under pressure.
  8. Ability to read and interpret documents.
  9. Ability to work well in teams.

Experience:

  1. 7+ years of business development experience (Transportation, Brokerage, or 3PL space).
  2. Bachelors preferred.

Other Requirements:

  1. Ability to travel as needed (anticipated to be less than 30%).
