General Description and Qualifications
If you're looking for a Monday through Friday part-time role with predictable hours and enjoy working with children, the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department has an opportunity for you.

We are currently seeking caring, compassionate and motivated individuals to staff our P.A.R.K. programs both before and after school. P.A.R.K. (Programmed After-school Recreation for Kids) is a childcare program that offers a safe place for elementary school-aged children to stay physically, mentally, and socially active when school is in session.

Before School hours: 6 am to 8 am
After School hours: 2:15 pm to 6:15 pm
Program locations: Buckeye Woods, J.C. Sommer, Highland Park, Monterey, and Richard Avenue Elementary Schools.
Maximum hours scheduled per week: 28
Starting salary: $17.85 per hour
School holidays off! If Southwestern-City Schools are closed for the day, the PARK program is also closed for the day.

Appointed by the Mayor in consultation with the Administrative Assistant, the P.A.R.K. Leader under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Supervisor is responsible for the development, organization, and execution of a well-balanced, diversified program of activities during P.A.R.K. (Programmed Afterschool Recreation for Kids).
The P.A.R.K. Leader shall be chosen solely on the basis of their qualifications, and as shown by the adequacy of their successful experience.

  • Has proven ability in oral and written communications.
  • Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public in general.
  • Sufficient knowledge to carry out a full range of varied responsibilities and discharge the accountability required of the PARK Leader.
  • Completion of secondary education (high school or GED); must be 18 years of age; must be able to qualify for and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy
  • Has the ability to follow direction, provide necessary services and enforce stated rules and regulations.
  • Experience with school age children preferred; College credits in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Education, Recreation, or another related field preferred, but not required.
  • The ability to plan and provide appropriate school age activities and have a basic understanding of child development and group management.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Current adult, child and infant CPR and first aid certifications preferred, but not required.
Essential Functions of the Position
The P.A.R.K. Leader shall have the following powers and duties under the appropriate immediate supervisor:
  • Obey and promptly execute all orders of the Administrative Assistant.
  • Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
  • Plans daily games and activities for children.
  • Supports and implements a daily program consistent with the P.A.R.K. goals and philosophy.
  • Assists with the preparation of monthly calendar of events, newsletters, and requests for supplies. Maintains inventory of supplies and Grove City Parks and Recreation Department equipment (first aid box, games, balls, etc.)
  • Assists the Site Manager in completing Site Manager report form, injury reports, attendance rosters, and all other necessary paperwork to turn in on a weekly basis to the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Maintains positive communication with supervisors, P.A.R.K. staff, school personnel, parents, and children.
  • Attends all staff meetings and In-Service trainings.
  • Supervises all activities and children to ensure safety of all participants.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Site Manager and Recreation Supervisors and follows all policies outlined in the P.A.R.K. Leader Handbook.
  • Oversees other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
  • Follows all rules, regulations and ethics conduct as set forth by the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Grove City.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions and Equipment Operated

Personal computer, computer software (e.g., RecTrac, Microsoft Office), printer, copy machine, fax machine, and other standard business office equipment.

The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); ascends and/or descends stairs; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 30 lbs or less.

Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered light work.
