Scope of Position

This position is responsible for the day-to-day cost accounting process for the OSUWMC Health System. Financial Services Department provides financial information, support, and analysis to all departments within the University Hospitals and its affiliates, The James Cancer Hospital, University Hospitals East, OSU/Behavioral Health and Network Operations. Financial information systems are maintained, supported and enhanced, and processes are developed to fulfill the department's mission. The department provides primary support to the hospital for monthly financial and statistical reporting, operating and capital budgeting, revenue management and charge entry support, reimbursement support and cost report filings, cost accounting and managed care system support, property management, accounts payable, and a wide variety of financial analysis.

Position Summary

The Cost Accountant will assist in developing, maintaining, and reporting financial results within the Cost Accounting System. The Cost Accountant will participate in the completion of the monthly and yearly cost accounting close process. This position will assist in developing accurate cost assignment methodologies, statistics, reconciliation templates, and utilize financial knowledge to produce credible and reliable information. The Cost Accountant will begin to learn the organization and develop an understanding of the healthcare environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field with 1-3 years of experience. Have fundamental knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP. Have basic computer skills with strong working knowledge of Excel and Access with general understanding of database and reporting tools. Possess fundamental organizational and time management skills. Must demonstrate ability to ensure quality in own work and develop strategies to ensure accurate presentations. Exhibit professionalism and possess an ability to communicate with various levels of personnel.
