Minimum Qualifications:
Eligible for Delaware Paraprofessional Certification using one of the three options:

  • High School Diploma and passing Paraprofessional Assessment
  • Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher learning and accumulating at least 60 credits
  • Obtain an Associates Degree or higher
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for providing assistance to special education students in attainment of IEP goals and objectives and general education students. Assists the teacher in the introduction and development of new skills to enable students to function effectively in the environment.
  • Assists in a variety of instructional and activities with students as assigned by the teacher
  • Assists the teacher in establishing and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Assists in the supervision and monitoring of students through assigned duties, i.e. hallways, lunchrooms; insures appropriate conduct during these periods
  • Participates in staff and aide meetings
  • Monitors activities and behavior of students to ensure physical and environmental safe keeping, as well as adherence to appropriate conduct and disciplinary controls.
  • Assists teachers in checking and objectively evaluating progress; teaches students individually reinforcing skills based upon instructional guidelines
  • Acts as a positive role model for students through appropriate action and dress
  • Performs related duties as directed.
