Senior Tax Accountant

Description:

Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their corporate accounting team with a focus on sales and use tax compliance on the customer side and supporting accounting process improvements. This role will be responsible for managing reconciliation-heavy workflows, optimizing month-end close activities, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced in both tax compliance and corporate accounting functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee sales and use tax processes related to customer transactions, including exemption certificates, compliance, and reporting.
  • Research and resolve customer sales/use tax questions and discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Support month-end and year-end close by preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline reconciliation processes and enhance the efficiency of the close cycle.
  • Assist with internal controls, ensuring accuracy and compliance across all accounting functions.
  • Partner with operations, customer service, and finance teams to resolve issues related to billing, tax, and reporting.
  • Participate in accounting projects focused on system optimization, process improvement, and automation.
  • Provide support for internal and external audit requests, preparing documentation as needed.
  • Contribute to ad hoc analyses, projects, and initiatives led by the Controller or Accounting Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3-6 years of progressive accounting experience, with exposure to sales/use tax compliance.
  • Strong reconciliation skills and experience with high-volume transaction environments.
  • Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems; exposure to Avalara or similar tax software is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and internal control frameworks.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
